Fortwilliam Dental Practice is currently registering new NHS and private patients. Owned by dentists Christine Devlin and Chris Scannell, the building underwent extensive renovation and refurbishment in 2012 with installation of the latest equipment.

We understand that visiting the dentist can be a daunting task for most people. Our friendy, caring, gentle team aims to make your experience as comfortable and fear free as possible.

Advice for patients regarding gradual reintroduction of dental services.

First and foremost, we wish to thank all of our patients for their understanding and patience as we navigate through these uncertain times.

Obviously Covid-19 has not gone away and as we await guidance on the reintroduction of dental services we want to inform our patients of the likely changes we think we will have to introduce to allow us to keep our staff and patients safe.

As you can imagine we will have to undertake various measures to ensure social distancing. These will include:

  • limiting the number of patients seen in the practice
  • asking patients to attend alone where possible
  • asking patients to wait in their cars outside if they can until they are told they can enter premises
  • appointment queries to be dealt with by telephone only
  • contactless card payments
  • longer times between appointments to minimise patient contact with other patients

We obviously have a huge backlog of patients to be seen and to ensure the above measures can be met, our capacity to see patients will be nowhere near what it was pre-lockdown.

This will mean that we will have to prioritise which patients will be seen first. Unfortunately, this means that we will be unable to book routine examinations for the foreseeable future as we concentrate on seeing those patients with urgent unmet treatment needs.

We will still be restricted as to the nature of treatments also and will have to postpone some definitive treatments for a while too.

At this stage we will continue to triage patients by telephone to give advice remotely where possible.

Again, we sincerely thank you for your ongoing understanding of the challenges we face but please be assured that we are doing our best to care for our staff and you our loyal patients.

Please stay safe and follow the guidance!
