CHRIS SCANNELL

Principal Dentist

Chris Scannell graduated from Queen’s University in 2003 and has worked across NHS and private dentistry, including in Australia. He’s also been a Clinical Teaching Fellow and Vocational Trainer. Since founding Fortwilliam Dental Practice in 2012, he has focused on dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, and integrating digital technologies such as CBCT and intraoral scanners. Chris holds postgraduate qualifications including the MFDS (RCS Edinburgh) and a PGCE in Clinical Education. He uses guided surgery and Digital Smile Design principles to deliver precise, tailored treatments. Chris enjoys travel, football, golf, and time with his family outside of dentistry.

JAMES MCKENNA

Associate Dentist and PG Diploma Orthodontics

James joined the team in September 2024, having qualified from Queen’s University Belfast in 2021. He provides general dental care with a strong focus on orthodontics, offering both fixed braces and clear aligners. Passionate about helping patients achieve straighter smiles, he also enjoys working with nervous patients and children. James is currently studying for a Diploma in Implant Dentistry in London to broaden treatment options for missing teeth. His clinical interests include aesthetic dentistry, crown and bridgework, whitening, and composite bonding. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, running, and cycling, and recently completed a marathon for an anti-trafficking charity.

Associate Dentist

Anna previously a student of Dominican College, Fortwilliam, Anna graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2022 and moved to Scotland to complete her training. She worked there for a few years before moving home to Northern Ireland to be closer to her family. Anna really enjoys all aspects of general practice and especially enjoys working with children and helping patients who are anxious. Outside of work, Anna enjoys travelling, spending time with her family and keeping fit; she has recently completed her first marathon.

Ben qualified from Queen’s University, Belfast. Before working in Fortwilliam Dental Practice, Ben worked in Edinburgh and then as part of the Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine team within the School of Dentistry in the Royal. Ben enjoys all aspects of Dentistry, but oral surgery and kids' dentistry are his favourite areas. He is continually progressing his career, having completed his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons (MFDS) examination and taking part in regular courses.

Associate Dentist

Clodagh is currently on extended maternity leave spending time with her young family.
Clodagh qualified from Queen's University Belfast in 2013. She moved to Newcastle upon Tyne and completed post graduate training in both hospital and practice settings. In 2015 she moved back to Belfast and has been working in general practice since.

Clodagh has a great passion for helping her patients improve their oral health and reduce their dental anxiety. She is a firm believer in continually working to improve her skills, completing her MFDS in 2015 and undertaking a year long restorative course in cosmetic and aesthetic restorative dentistry in 2020.

Clodagh also provides facial aesthetic treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections and lip fillers.

Dental Hygienist

Remya joined Fortwilliam Dental Practice in 2025 and will provide hygiene services to patients in the practice

Remya is a friendly and approachable Dental Hygienist, originally trained as a dentist overseas and now registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Hygienist/Therapist .
With this strong foundation, she brings a wide understanding of oral health and is passionate about helping patients maintain healthy gums and confident smiles.
She is committed to making every visit a positive experience, taking extra care to reassure and support nervous patients. Her approach is gentle yet thorough, focusing on gum health, preventative treatments, and personalised advice for long-term oral wellbeing.
Building trust and creating a comfortable environment are at the heart of her approach.
Outside of work, Remya enjoys spending time with family & travelling.

Kirstie qualified in 2012 and joined Fortwilliam Dental Practice in 2022. Kirstie manages the Practice’s clinical quality and governance.

Lara qualified in 2020 and joined Fortwilliam Dental Practice in 2022. Lara works predominantly with Chris and has significant experience in implants.

Victoria qualified in 2020 and joined Fortwilliam Dental Practice in 2023. Victoria is experienced in implants and also manages the Practice’s clinical quality and governance alongside Kirstie
